Welcome to the Electric Power Research Center!

To ensure continued advancements in electric power and energy-related fields, the Electric Power Research Center (EPRC) was established at Iowa State University in 1988. EPRC promotes and expands research of particular interest to faculty and the companies who support the center through membership fees. Primary goals include maintaining a strong electric power and energy research program, and educating students at the BS, MS, and PhD levels, thus preparing them for careers in electric utilities and supporting industries. Faculty are aware of issues confronting the industry and use this knowledge to identify research topics for their students. The research results influence the quality of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and also provide a stronger link between basic theory and its application to engineering challenges in industry.

The EPRC was formed to:

• enhance research opportunities related to electric power and the associated technology transfer to classroom activities and to industry
• act as a central contact point with industry, funding agencies, and others, where appropriate, in coordinating research activities related to electric power
• combine in one center the various power engineering research activities funded by EPRC members
• provide a mechanism for the formation of interdisciplinary research teams
• attract students and faculty to the power program
• assist faculty members in acquiring research funds and conducting their research
• provide specific activities to assist new and junior faculty members to develop their base of research
